Continence treatment

At the moment we are only able to offer this specialised service to Women.

Many Women suffer continence problems but view this as normal. Often these problems develop following Pregnancy, Child birth or Menopause. Some Women will have problems without any of the latter. The common problems encountered are Stress Incontinence and Urge Incontinence. Stress Incontinence may manifest itself by leakage of Urine when coughing, sneezing or straining. Urge incontinence may cause the sufferer to need to go to the toilet urgently and if they do get in time there may be an involuntary loss of Urine. Sometime there is a mix of problems. Most of these problems can be helped with treatment. This may involve an exercise training programme for the Pelvic floor muscle, a Bladder retraining programme, the use of Pelvic cones/weights , biofeedback or stimulation of the area using special Continence stimulators.

A detailed assessment is carried out initially to determine the type of problem and the most appropriate treatment programme. Then its up to you with the help of your Continence Physiotherapist. The good news is that most problems can be helped with Continence Physiotherapy. Please ask for the Specialist Physiotherapist at the time of booking.
